Abstract

COELHO, Mayara Pacheco  and  CEZAR, Michelle de Almeida. The rufous-bellied thrush and its elephant memory. Mental [online]. 2017, vol.11, n.21, pp.396-410. ISSN 1679-4427.

This paper brings the experience of a Tanzanian immigrant, at an advanced age, on Brazilian soil for over 40 years. Based on oral narrative, this study aimed to articulate his life story and the concepts of "memory" and "identity". The method used for obtaining information was an open interview, due to the freedom that it gives to the respondent to discuss the issues raised. About the respondent's report, reflections are made about his religiosity, the meaning of work in his life, his home country political and economic issues, perceived changes throughout his stay in Brazilian soil, and the way his identity was transformed by incorporating new elements over the years.

Keywords : memory; narration; immigrants.
