Population aging will bring changes in the care needs of the elderly population. From these premises, this study aimed to discuss the characteristics of hoarding disorder in the context of human aging, highlighting the factors related to the development of these manifestations and the psychopathological framework itself. For this purpose, a qualitative, descriptive and cross-sectional literature review research was conducted. It was discussed that hoarding disorder is commonly identified in advanced stages, as the disorder exhibits traits that lead to social isolation, pointing to the lack of a support network for the elderly and the implications related to the reality of these individuals. The loss of self-care and the lack of a secure environment for the elderly hoarder are emphasized.
