BIZ, Ricardo et al. PATIENTS ADMITTED INTO A PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL DUE TO SUICIDE RISK: CHARACTERISTICS AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PERIODS BEFORE AND AFTER COVID. Mental [online]. 2024, vol.16, n.29, 0005. Epub 07-Oct-2024. ISSN 1679-4427. https://doi.org/10.5935/1679-4427.v16n29.0005.
Using a questionnaire with 23 questions, the epidemiological profile of patients admitted to Itupeva Psychiatric Hospital (HPI), due to suicidal attempts and ideas, was evaluated in the period pre-covid-19 (PRECO) and period post-covid-19 (POSCO), and compared with data from a Control Group (CG), composed of patients hospitalized for other reasons and who did not present suicidal ideation. The sample consists of a total of 254 patients: PRECO n= 109, POSCO n= 75 and CG n=70. It was found that social isolation did not change the epidemiological characteristics of the patients with suicidal behavior evaluated. Significant differences were found in the profile of patients hospitalized for suicidal behavior and those hospitalized for other causes, mainly with regard to the epidemiological profile, the diagnoses received and the duration of psychiatric hospitalization.
