Resumen

CAMARGOS, Ana Letícia; FARIA, Brenner Felipe da Silva  y  NASCIMENTO, Samuel Augusto Araújo. THE MEDICALIZATION PROCESS ASSOCIATED TO CHILDHOOD. Mental [online]. 2024, vol.16, n.29, 0006.  Epub 07-Oct-2024. ISSN 1679-4427.  https://doi.org/10.5935/1679-4427.v16n29.0006.

The present work was dedicated to investigating the medicalization processes that involve childhood in contemporary society, as well as the possible prospective implications arising from these processes. Furthermore, we sought to promote the contextualization of the concept of medicalization, outlining essential distinctions in relation to medication and the act of medicating. The methodology adopted for this research was based on carrying out a bibliographical review, comprising the analysis of articles and works that address, in their content, the themes of medicalization and child medicalization. The results obtained provide an enlightening discussion about medicalization practices aimed at children, which are based on the administration of medicinal substances in situations that, often, do not require drug treatment.
