Resumen

PERUZZOLO, Marlon Cardoso  y  VIARO, Renee Volpato. DSM AND DISORDERS ASSOCIATED WITH CHILDHOOD: THE PSYCHIATRIC DIAGNOSTIC CLASSIFICATION UNDER DISCUSSION. Mental [online]. 2024, vol.16, n.29, 0007.  Epub 07-Oct-2024. ISSN 1679-4427.  https://doi.org/10.5935/1679-4427.v16n29.0007.

The work aims to critically discuss the logic that permeates the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and demonstrate how its conceptions generate a diagnostic problem that underlies its own supposedly neutral categorical criteria. To this end, it chooses an argumentative approach three of the most controversial childhood diagnoses: bipolarity, autism and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. The conclusions point to the weaknesses of contemporary psychiatry, its contradictions and relationships with the pharmaceutical industry, expressed mainly by the rampant medicalization that pervades mental health therapy.
