MATTOS, Ricardo Mendes e RODRIGUES, Alexandra Magna. MENTAL HEALTH OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS: A CASE STUDY OF STUDENT ASSISTANCE POLICIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TAUBATÉ (2014-2024). Mental [online]. 2024, vol.16, n.30, 0011. Epub 16-Dez-2024. ISSN 1984-980X. https://doi.org/10.5935/1679-4427.v16n30.0011.
University students are considered vulnerable in terms of mental health, making student assistance policies necessary. However, like the National Student Assistance Plan (PNAES), in Brazil such policies are more frequent within the scope of public institutions, mainly federal ones. This article researched the mental health student assistance policy at a municipal and hybrid university (public, but with monthly fees), the University of Taubaté (UNITAU). To this end, a case study was carried out, using documentary research as the main source of data collection. It is concluded that the aforementioned policy began with emergency care for emotional crises, in 2014, and was later expanded to the prevention and promotion of mental health through health education.
