This study addresses the mental health perceptions of the Tapuya Kariri indigenous people from Aldeia Gameleira, Ceará, Brazil, using an action research methodology. The investigation included a conversation with 20 adults, whose data was recorded, transcribed and analyzed using Content Analysis. Perceptions are divided into two main perspectives: experiences of psychological suffering, often aligned with biomedical logic, and ancestral understandings of mental health that emphasize traditional and community practices. Health, for the Tapuya Kariri, is strongly connected to territory, spirituality and sense of community, highlighting the importance of the relationship with the land and collective life as fundamental elements for the health of indigenous peoples.
