Resumen

MARIOTTI, Luana Cristina Campi et al. Loneliness and affects: clinical-existentials conceptions. Mental [online]. 2025, vol.17, n.32, pp.24-32.  Epub 10-Nov-2025. ISSN 1679-4427.  https://doi.org/10.5935/1679-4427.v17n32.0004.

Relational interaction with others significantly influences how individuals relate to themselves and deal with existential circumstances. This study aims to discuss the factors that shape the experience of loneliness based on contributions from clinical psychology and contemporary conceptions of this existential affect. To this end, a narrative literature review was conducted on the topic. In contemporary society, loneliness is often perceived negatively and associated with isolation, leading to the view of the other as a utilitarian means to avoid it. The phenomenological-hermeneutic approach contributes to self-understanding and to the redefinition of loneliness as a constitutive part of human existence, encouraging its natural experience and recognizing its transformative potential. In this sense, psychotherapy emerges as a privileged space for attentive listening and more authentic encounters.
