Abstract

The study evaluated the effects of applying a social skills program on the repertoire of social skills, self-efficacy beliefs and the perception of social support in social vulnerability vulnerable students. 34 students participated (aged between 12 and 16 years old), allocated for convenience in the intervention (n=18) and control (n=16) groups, who attended at the end of elementary school at a public school, located in a favela complex in the Rio de Janeiro state. The program consisted of seven meetings, with pre-test and post-test measures, evaluated using the following instruments: Social Skills Inventory for Adolescents; Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale; Social Support Appraisal. The intervention promoted social skills, self-efficacy beliefs and social support. It is concluded that the intervention demonstrated some indicators of effectiveness that can be used in future research with students and their teachers at the end of Elementary School. Experimental and follow-up studies should be conducted in subsequent research.
