Abstract

The objective was to investigate the relationship between parenting styles and practices, bullying victimization and suicidal ideation in adolescents. This is a quantitative, cross-sectional and correlational study with 117 adolescents. The instruments were: sociodemographic questionnaire, California Bullying Victimization Scale, Beck’s suicidal Ideation Scale and Parental Responsiveness and Demandingness Scale. The results showed moderate correlations between parental demand and responsiveness, father and mother responsiveness, mother demand and responsiveness, and between bullying and suicidal ideation. Regarding parenting styles, most adolescents rated their parents as negligent. It highlights the importance of the influence of parental education as a prevention and support strategy in order to assist in the mental health of adolescents.
