SANTOS, Claudimara Chisté e ORTEGA, Antonio Carlos. The game of rules as a resource to evaluation and intervention: a piagetian study with teenagers. Ciênc. cogn. [online]. 2009, vol.14, n.1, pp.26-49. ISSN 1806-5821.
This research aimed to characterize the evolution of the level of understanding of a game of rules in teenagers of the female gender, based on a Piagetian theoretical approach. The literature review indicated a lack of studies investigating cognitive aspects of teenagers, being necessary, therefore, to conduct an exploratory study. Four teenage students of the first year of a public high school were the participants. The Piagetian clinical method oriented the data collection as well as the analysis. The instruments used were the game "Quoridor" and problem situations, aiming to verify the understanding of each participant of the logical system of the game. To complement the data analysis of the participants, psychometric tests were used to verify the scores of neuroticism and memory. The following increasing levels of understanding of the game were established: I, II/A, II/B, III/A e III/B. Of the four teenagers in this research, two achieved the level II/A and two the level II/B. In the psychometric tests, the two participants who had achieved the level II/B obtained a low average score in the memory test. Of the two participants in the level II/A, one was also in the low average and the other obtained a higher level, being on the average. One of the participants (II/A) presented a diagnosis suggesting depression, another one (II/B) was not characterized in any condition of neuroticism, and the other two (II/A and II/B) presented indicators of anxiety. The data point to the necessity of broadening the application of varied instruments to the evaluation and assessment of cognitive processes
