PIRES, Cintia Brasil Simões et al. Where we were, how we are, for where we intend to go: in search of a therapeutic format to treat families in situations of violence. IGT rede [online]. 2007, vol.4, n.7, pp.190-198.  Epub 13-Out-2025. ISSN 1807-2526.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14903477.

This article intends to present the shaping of a workgroup specialized in counseling families living with violence at the Social Clinic of the Institute of Family Therapy of Rio de Janeiro. The magnitude and specificity of this subject have generated the idea of writing this paper. This kind of clinic practice includes some particularities which have motivated the creation and recreation of a specific methodology inspired in rewriting the patterns of the Social Clinic. The theoretical support is systemic and constructionist based in the belief of the potential for change and growth within these families, as well as the possibility for them in rescuing the dignity of each individual and building more viable relationships. The work carried out includes the construction of a common language and trust bonds between the family members. These aspects are unavoidable if we intend to get closer and share these families’ pain, as well as creating productive conversation contexts. As for the results obtained we believe the starting point is the creation of adequate conversation contexts in which we are able to enhance patience, sensitiveness, delicacy, respect, comprehension and the wisdom of these families, oriented by the ethics of the systemic vision.
