RAINHA, Jade Rodrigues Dionízio; PALLINI, Ana Celi; TARTARO, Gustavo Kastien  e  BAPTISTA, Makilim Nunes. Conceptions about group psychotherapy in a small sample of the general population. IGT rede [online]. 2021, vol.18, n.35, pp.216-239.  Epub 20-Jun-2025. ISSN 1807-2526.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15149178.

The present study investigates the conceptions of a small sample of the general population about group psychotherapy (PG), raising the most common concepts and fears about this practice. The sample was comprised of 81 participants, aged from 18 to 61 years old (Mage = 29.3; SD = 1.23), 75.3% female and 59.3% single. Data collection was done through social networks. All participants agreed to the Free and Informed Consent Form and answered the sociodemographic questionnaire and the Conceptions Evaluation Form Regarding Group Psychotherapy, created by the authors, based on Yalom (2007). The Jamovi program was used to analyze the data. The significant results of the t-tests showed that women had more negative conceptions (M = 23.7; SD = 5.84) than men (M = 19.9; SD = 5.93) and singles had more conceptions positive (M = 33.3; SD = 6.22) than married (M = 28.8; SD = 8.44) about PG. A frequency analysis concluded that curiosity, interest, and belief in the improvement of interpersonal relationships were the most frequent items. However, the majority of the sample (62.9%) believes that individual psychotherapy is better.
