ASSIS, Gustavo Alves Pereira de    MARQUES, Rodrigo Vieira. Gestalt therapy, Merleau-Ponty and the clinic of the person existing with HIV/AIDS. IGT rede []. 2023, 20, 38, pp.37-52.   27--2025. ISSN 1807-2526.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15149727.

This theoretical essay deals with some introductory approaches to Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s Philosophy of Existence to understand the clinic of the person who exists with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which can cause acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). To this end, theoretical texts and field research in Brazilian literature were interwoven. Initially, an understanding of the holistic-gestalt paradigm was sought to ground psychotherapy and Gestalt therapy research in health-disease processes. Thus, some considerations were made about this phenomenon, to then understand this dynamic in the processes of HIV/Aids infection. In this sense, the understanding of the Gestalt clinic with people existing with HIV/Aids was outlined, with Merleau-Ponty’s contributions emphasizing an expanded consciousness, the psychotherapeutic relationship and the here-and-now of the session. Finally, some research in the Brazilian context was described to elucidate the potential of Gestalt therapy research in this area.
