In this text we seek to explain the differences observed between relationships established online and relationships experienced in person. It reports how it was possible to perceive, in certain situations, a gain in emotional intensity in the relationships experienced through information and communication technologies. It brings clinical and academic examples that illustrate these observations and proposes the development of careful investigations in relation to this phenomenon that we call “virtual intimacy”.
