An exploratory qualitative study to identify the ways in which anxiety manifested itself in the experiences of medical students at the Federal University, Curitiba Campus. Approved by the Ethics Committee, opinion 6,570,058. Method: questionnaire on the Google forms virtual platform, open questions about qualities and defects; social perception; recurring thoughts and fears; ways of dealing with anxiety; and a semi-directed, face-to-face interview recorded in audio about student demands in mental health; referrals and solutions mediated by the Academic Directory; profile of students with anxiety. Inclusion criteria: volunteers, regardless of gender, color/ethnicity; between 18 and 30 years old of any social class and course period. Exclusion criteria: under 18 and over 31 years old, diagnosed with mental disorders other than the anxiety spectrum, neurological and chronic psychiatric illnesses. Results: anxiety indicators: jokes, bullying, some teachers convey fear; fear social cancellation; volume of work, tests, having to memorize; insecurities; impotence. Conclusion: the course is strongly influenced by the capitalist society model, guided by symbols of wealth; Gestalt therapy can support the student in making their own creative choices, and contribute to caring for expressiveness and regulating social life based on autonomy and criticizing the sources that cause social oppression.
