The aim of this study was to identify the history of violence in childhood and adolescence of homosexual Brazilian men. It is a mixed and sequential study. A total of 101 homosexual men with an average age of 26.37 years (SD = 6.84) participated in the first stage of the study, with a quantitative approach. The second stage, with a qualitative approach, was composed of seven men with an average age of 25.4 years (SD = 4.42). The instruments used were: Sociodemographic Questionnaire; Maltreatment and Abuse Chronology of Exposure Scale (MACE); Semi-structured interview. The most frequent forms of violence identified among participants in the first stage of the study were emotional abuse by peers, non-verbal emotional abuse, and parental physical abuse. Through the analysis of the interviews, three main themes were identified: 1) Contexts of violence; 2) Gender non-conformity; 3) Emotions attributed to the experiences of violence. It is essential that parents and educators understand the role of emotional support they must play in the development process of children and adolescents. In this sense, psychologists and other health professionals must carry out interventions to contribute to the deconstruction of gender stereotypes and heteronormative logics that support prejudice and violence.
