BRAUN, Patrícia and SOBRINHO, Francisco de PaulaNunes. A quasi-experimental analysis of the effects of a continuous education program on classroom behavior management: the countoons system. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2006, vol.2, n.2, pp.91-104. ISSN 1808-5687.
The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the effects of a continuing education program on the development of teacher core competencies in assisting students involved with discipline problems. The study was conducted with 10 elementary private school teachers. The continuing education program consisted of self-control techniques and procedures applied to students involved in classroom indiscipline acts, once a week, during 18 consecutive sessions. The teaching procedures were implemented in an action-research format, including video-feedback in the school environment. The program efficacy indicated satisfactory results in teacher knowledge acquisition and development of competencies in assisting the students. Self-control practices were later incorporated in the schools routine, according to follow-up research data.
