Throughout this manuscript, one can verify that this disorder causes many consequences in several spheres of the social and personal life due to its chronicity and comorbidity, as well as being debilitating, as it is one of the most prevalent disorders in the general population. As a result, it is of great relevance that the diagnosis and intervention is initiated as soon as possible. Psychotherapy and pharmacology are pointed out as the main forms of intervention. Moreover, the cognitivebehavioral psychotherapy is highlighted as one of the approaches that has been demonstrating great effectiveness in the treatment. Having said that, the following techniques of intervention are presented: cognitive restructuring, relaxation training, social skills training, and behavioral experiments, as well as pharmacotherapeutic indications.
