Abstract
BANDEIRA, Renata Groba and OLIVEIRA, Clarissa Tochetto de. Third generation cognitive-behavior therapy treatment for anorexia nervosa. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2015, vol.11, n.2, pp.105-112. ISSN 1808-5687. https://doi.org/10.5935/1808-5687.20150015.
The objective of this study is to review publications that investigated the applicability of strategies used by third generation Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approaches (CBT) in the treatment of anorexia nervosa (AN), and, therefore, to promote the use of the most effective techniques. To this end, a systematic review of the literature was carried out by research in books and scientific articles published as from 2010. The inclusion criteria were the publication date of the work- less than five years - and the appropriateness to the subject chosen for this review. It was found that the literature recognizes AN as a multifactorial pathology and resistant to treatment in general, including to psychotherapeutic interventions. Several studies suggest that patients with AN often face difficulties in regulating their affections. Other studies have found prevalence of alexithymia in individuals with AN. Evidence was found in the current specialized literature suggesting gains in the efficacy in the treatment of AN regarding the systematic interventions in the control of emotions - such as recommended by the third generation CBT approaches. Notwithstanding, further research is needed to attest the effectiveness of emotional regulation strategies in the treatment of this pathology.
