Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease in which short, medium and long-term outcomes are dependent on the self-management of the disease. When the somatic picture is associated with depressive, anxiety and burnout symptoms of DM, it may have a worse prognosis. Thus, it is argued that patients with DM associated with emotional problems need psychotherapeutic attention in order to improve self-care and the relief or minimization of psychopathological symptoms. This article will present the case report of a patient diagnosed with DM1, mild symptoms of depression and burnout of DM attended in the years 2015 and 2016 at Hospital das Clínicas / UFMG. We will discuss the goals set for the treatment and described the intervention performed with Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy approach and the Greaves and coleagues (2010) "Process model for supporting lifestyle behaviour change". In such a model, we represent the phases and the steps that patients are required to go through in order to achieve behavior modification. Finally, will be discussed the main impasses and results achieved in the therapeutic process. The relevant case was considered, because it is possible to notice that psychological intervention contributes greatly to the care of patients with DM.
