ALGARVES, Cleonice Pereira; CARDOSO, Bruno Luiz Avelino  y  PAIM, Kelly. Early maladaptive schemas of women in situation of intimate partner violence. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2023, vol.19, n.2, pp.151-161.  Epub 26-Ago-2024. ISSN 1808-5687.  https://doi.org/10.5935/1808-5687.20230019.

One of the psychotherapy modalities that has advanced in understanding the beliefs involved in choices for patterns that bring suffering is Schema Therapy. According to this approach, Early Maladaptive Schemas (EMS) can be at the foundation of choices for emotionally non-nurturing relationships, including violent relationships. This study has researched EMSs presented in women in situations of intimate partner violence. EMSs, the types of violence suffered by women and the relation between intimate partner violence, EMS and age were analyzed. The sample consisted of 40 women in situations of intimate partner violence and used the instruments: Womens Identification Form, Young Schema Questionnaire and Intimate Partner Violence Scale. The data analysis was carried out through descriptive statistics (minimum, maximum and mean/SD) and inferential (Pearsons’s correlation). The results indicated a negative correlation between Self-sacrifice and Damage to Health, Sexuality and Heritage, and positive between Punitiveness and Behavioral Control. It was also identified negative correlation between EMSs and the age of women. The outcome of this study amplifies the discussion on the variables that can identify the violence against women, consolidating the importance of the assessment of EMSs.
