GASPAR-DE-MATOS, Margarida et al. Psychology in public policies: proposal of an Observatory of Psychological Health and Well-Being (monitoring and action) in portuguese schools. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2024, vol.20, e20240510. Epub 10-Jan-2025. ISSN 1808-5687. https://doi.org/10.5935/1808-5687.20240510.
This study aims to present the results of three studies developed within the scope of the “Psychological Health and Well-Being Observatory: Monitoring and Action”, whose main objective is to monitor the psychological health and well-being of school-aged children and adolescents, as well as their teachers and educators. Several instruments were applied to analyze different educational levels (from preschool to 12th grade - senior year of high school) and to assess teachers. The results indicate a less positive outlook among older female students and female teachers, highlighting the importance of students’ socio-emotional skills and healthy habits, as well as communication and institutional support for teachers. The recommendations focus on strategies of anticipation, alertness, and action for students, teachers, and families, as well as the implementation of effective public policies. The study also revealed, through focus groups and school surveys, the urgent need for evidence-based interventions, better coordination between schools and health services, and the integration of socio-emotional learning into the school curriculum. These measures aim to mitigate the negative effects of the pandemic and prepare the school ecosystem for future challenges.
