Abstract

CHAVES, Cleuza Elizabete de; OLIVEIRA, Camila Rosa de; PALOSKI, Luis Henrique  and  WAGNER, Marcia Fortes. Assessment and Social Skills Training in Psychology Students. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. Social skills have been studied in various contexts, including the academic environment. The aim of the study was to develop a group social skills training intervention, assessing the social skills repertoire of psychology students, as well as identifying the presence of depressive symptoms, anxiety and stress. This is a comparison study between preand post-intervention groups; the Wilcoxon test was used. It was carried out in a private institution in the north of Rio Grande do Sul. Eighteen subjects took part, 77.8% (n = 14) female and 22.2% (n = 4) male, with an average age of 25.17 years (SD = 8.74). The instruments were the Social Skills Inventory-2-Del-Prette and the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21). The results showed that the overall score and all the factors of the IHS2-Del-Prette had higher averages in the post-intervention period. The application of the DASS-21 showed a reduction in the intensity of depressive, anxiety and stress symptoms. The results suggest that social skills training brought benefits, improving the behavioral repertoire of psychology students. As well as improving important skills for their academic and professional performance, it also brought benefits in terms of reducing existing clinical symptoms, contributing to a better quality of life.
