The objective of this study is to explore the configuration of behaviors that indicate perfectionism and selfcompassion through a network analysis. The network analysis approach is highly recommended for developing conceptualizations of psychopathology. To this end, the Clinical Perfectionism Questionnaire (CPQ) and the Self-Compassion Scale - Short Form (SCS-SF) were applied to 516 Brazilian university students aged between 18 and 60 years (M = 24.99; SD = 8.21), 399 (77.3%) of whom were female. To ensure that spurious parameters were set precisely to zero in order to obtain a more interpretable network, a Gaussian graphical model was estimated, regularized by LASSO with the selection of the EBIC model. The reverse items of the SCS-SF and the items in the perfectionistic concerns dimension of the CPQ tended to present higher centrality indices, with emphasis on item SCS01 (“I am really critical and severe with my own mistakes and defects”). The positive items of the SCS-SF and the items of the perfectionistic strivings dimension of the CPQ were positioned more peripherally to the network. The possible theoretical and practical implications of these results are discussed.
