According to Schema Therapy (ST), Early Adaptive Schemas (EASs) are schemas with broad, pervasive and adapted patterns, associated with memories, emotions, cognitions and neurobiological reactions. Developed in childhood and adolescence and elaborated throughout life, they lead to healthy psychic functioning. The aim of this review is to systematize the validation studies of the Young Positive Schema Questionnaire (YPSQ), an instrument that assesses 14 EASs (emotional fulfillment, success, empathic consideration, basic health and safety/ optimism, emotional openness and spontaneity, self-compassion, boundaries realistic/developed self, social belonging, healthy self-control/self-discipline, realistic expectations, self-direction, healthy self-interest/self-care, secure attachment, and healthy self-confidence/ competence). After carrying out a systematic review, 5 articles on YPSQ validation were found: the original validation, one German, one Chinese, one with a clinical group with eating disorders and a confirmatory validation of the factorial structure with 14 factors. |Cronbachs alphas ranged from 0.62 to 0.91. Differences were observed in the factor structures of the YPSQ that varied from 9 to 14 factors, indicating that cultural differences can influence the factor structure of the questionnaire. Common factors found across all validation studies were: success, emotional openness and spontaneity, and healthy self-control. It is possible that these factors suffer minor cross-cultural impacts.
