Resumen

CARDOSO, Dara Telly Nascimento  y  CARDOSO, Bruno Luiz Avelino. Cognitive-behavioral techniques in couples therapy: a review based on expert recommendations. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2024, vol.20, e20240434.  Epub 02-Dic-2024. ISSN 1808-5687.  https://doi.org/10.5935/1808-5687.20240434.

This study aimed to analyze cognitive-behavioral techniques in couple’s therapy. To this end, a literature review was carried out based on ten experts in cognitive-behavioral therapies (CBT) for couples, using the prompt: “please provide the top five references you know that address CBT techniques for couples”. The techniques were categorized and analyzed based on their frequency in the text. A total of 365 techniques were identified, with 43% of them focusing on the issue of distorted cognitions and 38.6% aiming at cognitive restructuring. Most techniques were found in foreign publications (64.1%), did not specify the treatment phase (58.6%), had a cognitive focus (58%), followed the traditional CBT perspective (56%), and were briefly mentioned in the text (37.7%). There is a variety of CBT techniques for couples available in the literature. Applying these techniques based on a consistent case conceptualization may be promising in couple’s therapy.
