CARDOSO, Bruno Luiz Avelino; PAIM, Kelly y CATELAN, Ramiro Figueiredo. Schema modes and sexual and gender minorities: a narrative review. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2024, vol.20, e20240458. Epub 02-Dic-2024. ISSN 1808-5687. https://doi.org/10.5935/1808-5687.20240458.
Schema modes (SMs) are widely discussed in the theory and practice of Schema Therapy (ST). However, there is still a lack of culturally sensitive studies addressing the needs of social minority groups (SMG), including sexual and gender minorities (SGM). This is a significant issue that results in inconsistent practices among professionals when working with this population, which is still underrepresented in scientific literature. The objectives of this article are (1) to present available studies in the literature on SMs in SGM and (2) to suggest possible directions and reflections regarding the mode map in SGM. A narrative review was conducted using the Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, APA (PsycINFO), SciELO, Lilacs, and Google Scholar databases, regardless of the publication year, with the descriptors: “schema mode$” AND “sexual and gender minorit*” and “schema mode” AND “sexual and gender minority.” Only one study was retrieved, and it is described in this article. The mode map in SGM is illustrated, expanding the understanding of the study found in the literature. Encouragement is given for empirical studies involving different SMG perspectives within ST and for therapists to be attentive to sociocultural variables in the clinical setting, including the needs and vulnerabilities of this population.
