Abstract

LOBO, Beatriz de Oliveira Meneguelo; AMORIM, Camila Alves; REZENDE, Alessandra Luzia  and  NEUFELD, Carmem Beatriz. Developing therapists’ clinical competencies through the PRHAVIDA Program: an Experience Report. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2024, vol.20, e20240519.  Epub Jan 10, 2025. ISSN 1808-5687.  https://doi.org/10.5935/1808-5687.20240519.

The paper reports on the experience of supervisors in the context of developing the skills of cognitive-behavioral therapist interns in a program of health prevention and promotion in childhood in a group format. The competency-based supervision process was grounded in active methodologies and involved theoretical training, role-playing practices, problem-solving training, session recording, and self-reflection, within a guided discovery process. The supervised process was conducted weekly by two supervisors: a primary supervisor and an observing supervisor, through reports and recordings of the sessions. The program was implemented with a group of three interns, who led group sessions with children aged 8 and 9 years. The importance of the alliance between supervisor and therapist is emphasized, as well as the complexity of developing clinical skills, which requires an integrated and flexible approach.
