Progress monitoring in psychotherapy stands out as an essential practice to guide clinical decisions, reduce deterioration, and promote better outcomes. This scoping review aimed to understand how progress monitoring in psychotherapy occurs, describe the most commonly used methods, and analyze the evidence of their effectiveness. Studies published between 2019 and 2024 were included, sourced from the Web of Science, PubMed, and Cochrane databases, totaling 12 articles (randomized clinical trials and systematic reviews). Findings indicate that instruments such as the Outcome Questionnaire-45 (OQ-45) and the Partners for Change Outcome Management System (PCOMS) are associated with improved therapeutic engagement, prevention of deterioration, and strengthening of the therapeutic alliance. However, the effects are moderated by factors such as context of application, population type, and therapist resistance. The review integrates recent evidence on process and implementation elements, highlighting that the impact of feedback depends not only on the instrument used, but on how it is incorporated into clinical practice.
