TEODOZIO, ANDRESSA MILCZARCK; BARTH, MARINA CAMARGO  e  LEVANDOWSKI, DANIELA CENTENARO. PERCEPTIONS AND FEELINGS ABOUT THE BABY FOLLOWING PREGNANCY LOSS. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2022, vol.74, e002.  Epub 09-Set-2024. ISSN 1809-5267.  https://doi.org/10.36482/1809-5267.arbp-2022v74.18995.

Pregnancy loss (PL) can affect subsequent pregnancy and motherhood. This study aimed to identify and understand maternal perceptions and feelings about pregnancy and the baby following PL. This is a qualitative and cross-sectional study with four mothers with PL in the last five years, whose subsequent baby was from 6 to 21 months. The Socio-Demographic and Clinical Data Questionnaire, the Loss Experiences Questionnaire, the Brief Symptom Inventory and the Interview on Mother’s Mourning Experience and Current Motherhood Experience were applied. The results showed repercussions of PL on maternal feelings about pregnancy, such as ambivalence, fear of new PL and anguish regarding childbirth and birth; and the perceptions and feelings about the baby, with the idealization of their characteristics and the mother-baby relationship, fear of the baby’s death and replacement of the deceased baby. The findings point to the importance of mental health prevention interventions for the mother-baby binomial in cases of PL.
