This article discusses dilemmas of the articulation between mental health and primary healthcare through the dialogue with psychologists who work at Programa Bem Viver (Well Living Program), which covers small towns in the region of São João del-Rei, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Focus groups were carried out as tools for the institutional analysis of practices and discourses in the field work. In the analysis process, three analyzers were created: (1) Space, which highlights the ambiguous place of the Programa Bem Viver in the psychosocial care network, (2) Demand, emphasizing the predominance of individual clinical care in the performance of psychologists and (3) Specialism, referring to the incipient interdisciplinary and intersectoral work. It is noted that the Programa Bem Viver, even inserted in the territory and providing initial reception of mental health care, works predominantly as an outpatient service, to the detriment of the integrality of actions required in primary healthcare.
