Abstract

BERNARDO, Alexandre José  and  RENNO JUNIOR, Lucio. Interpersonal Confidence and civic engagement: a correlational analysis. Psicol. pesq. [online]. 2007, vol.1, n.2, pp.54-66. ISSN 1982-1247.

The present study was carried out with 2499 residents/voters of Juiz de Fora city/MG along March 2002, pre-electoral period. Our study aimed to correlate interpersonal confidence variables with civic engagement. Besides that we also pretended to verify the bidimensionality of the interpersonal confidence concept. We found that interpersonal confidence does have a divided bidimensionality in particularised confidence and generalised confidence. It was also found that particularised confidence does not have any relationship with civic engagement, and on the other hand generalised confidence has a direct proportional relationship with civic engagement, that is the higher the level of generalised confidence the higher the civic engagement and certainly this will reflect on democracy.

Keywords : Interpersonal confidence; Bidimensionality; Civic engagement.
