Community Health Agents (CHA) that integrates the health care team of Family Health Strategy (FHS) are considered a bond between the community and the healthcare team. The present article aimed at the comprehension of CHA’s practices in the healthcare of alcohol and other drugs users at a city of Minas Gerais, Brazil, throught the accomplishment of individual unstructured interviews. Content analysis was the theoretical framework to approach the data. Four main issues were identified including mostly the ideas of fear and prejudice towards the user; family suffering related to the consumption; Psychosocial Care Network’s unknowing; and the perception of a insufficient professional practice. acting. It is noticed the urgency of continuing education involving CHAs supported by harm reduction perspective.
