Life projects are understood as the objectives adolescents establish for their lives and seek to accomplish in adulthood. This study has the purpose of knowing, based on 21 goals, the main life projects of young single adults and also to identify the position of marriage among these goals. The sample consisted of 197 participants: 77 men and 120 women, between 20 and 31 years old, coming from two different socialcultural contexts in the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil): the cities of Porto Alegre (capital state) and Erechim (mid-sized city in the countryside). The life projects pointed out as top of the list were: professional achievement, personal achievement, good living conditions, fulfill one's dreams and continue studying. Marriage came in the 19th place. No statistically significant differences (p < 0.05) were found for either gender or sociocultural context. Data indicate that marriage, although it continues to be desired, is not among the main single young adults life projects but it remains considered as an event that is part of the life cycle
