Study is a highly complex behavior required for academic and professional success, although it is rarely taught as a skill. This study aims to describe the development process of a training program to teach study behaviors to undergraduate students, based on the principles of a teaching technology called Programming Conditions for Behavior Development (PCDC); and to present preliminary results related to its application. The program was built in three steps: selection of target behaviors to be taught; sequencing and organization of these behaviors in modules and planning of learning conditions. The program resulted in four modules: physical environment management, time management, functional reading and self-monitoring; it was tested with 14 Psychology students. Validated instruments that assess study behaviors were applied. Data comparison between pre- and post-test using Student’s t test indicated that the program was efficient in developing behaviors related to time planning, self-knowledge and previous behaviors to functional reading.
