Abstract

DOTTA, Patrícia et al. The 3RS for the evaluation of Alliance ruptures and resolutions: research and clinical practice. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2022, vol.15, n.2, e18050.  Epub Jan 20, 2025. ISSN 1983-8220.  https://doi.org/10.36298/gerais202215e18050.

Ruptures of the therapeutic alliance (TA) are manifested by a lack of collaboration in tasks or therapeutic goals or a tension in the emotional bond and difficulty in negotiating aspects of the patient-therapist relationship. Identifying and repairing ruptures is a fundamental aspect of therapeutic activity and can prevent early treatment dropout. The Rupture Resolution Rating System (3RS) was designed to identify ruptures and repair strategies of TA in segments of psychotherapy sessions. It also measures the degree of impact that disruptions have had on TA and the repair strategies. The article describes and illustrates the 3RS system, recently adapted to Portuguese by our research group, and discusses its applicability to the empirical investigation of the micro processes linked to TA and to clinical practice.
