This research sought to understand the concerns that permeate adoptive parenting, and the role of adoption support groups in their elaboration. Eight members of an adoption support group participated in this study. The research was qualitative and was performed by using semi-directed interviews. The results indicate that the candidates for adoption have several concerns and feelings, among them: the impossibility of having biological children and the great waiting time for the adoption process. Also, the moment of filling the profile of the child/adolescent that one wishes to adopt and the fear about how parenting will go were mentioned. From this, we observed that the groups seem to constitute for the participants a space that supports such apprehensions, where pretenders and adoptive parents can share experiences, providing a space for thinking about those worries.
