This work aimed to investigate the memories of the residents of the municipality of Mineiros, state of Goiás, by using their narratives. It is a qualitative field research, produced by using nine open interviews with the residents of the city. This study is supported by authors such as Walter Benjamin, Maurice Halbwachs, Michael Pollak, and Ecléa Bosi. For data analysis, the questions that arose with the greatest recurrence and depth were interpreted in the light of the authors used by discourse analysis. The research has revealed that the county is constituted by the meeting of three different people: those from the state of Minas Gerais, of Bahia, and of Rio Grande do Sul. Thus, the interpersonal relations are marked by a certain tensioning that arises from cultural differences. The results had also shown the weakening of the community practices (like betrayal in the country), a strong identity element in the county that has been changed due to the arrival of industrialization. We perceived that creating meeting spaces – of narrative and listening – would favor the appropriation of their stories, acceptance of diversity, and thoughts about ways to face problems, such as violence, for example, by the residents.
