BONFA-ARAUJO, Bruno; BARROS, Leonardo de Oliveira y NORONHA, Ana Paula Porto. Dark Triad and Character Strengths: Relationships and Differences According to Sociodemographic Variables. Gerais, Rev. This exploratory research aimed to verify the relationship between the Dark Triad of personality and character strengths, as well as differences in sociodemographic variables. The study sample was composed of 237 Brazilian adults with a mean age of 27.83 years, 69.2% of whom were female, who answered the Short Dark Triad and Character Strength Scale. The results indicated statistically significant negative correlations of Machiavellianism with perseverance and forgiveness and of psychopathy with forgiveness and modesty, and a positive correlation of narcissism with social intelligence, all with a weak magnitude. In addition, there was a greater development of character strengths in people with higher education, and higher levels of Dark Triad were observed in men and people with less schooling. The relationships found between the Dark Triad and character strengths indicate that the constructs are not antagonistic, but have weak associations. Thus, intervening only for the development of strengths is not an appropriate strategy to reduce undesirable behaviors.
