Drunk driving increases vulnerability to traffic accidents, constituting it as a traffic violation. This article aims to present the experience of the blitz [police checkpoints] project—reflection groups with people who have committed traffic violations—, discussing the contributions of institutional tools to conduct and analyze group process. This extension project was developed in the context of penal alternatives and is guided by the institutionalist perspective. For this report, the first two cycles of the project, were considered. They were developed in 2017 and 2018, each including eight monthly group meetings guided by the areas of Psychology and Law. Three lines of analysis emerged from guiding mobilizing questions and highlight the tensions between forces. In the first, we highlight the contributions of group techniques to foster a participatory and reflective approach, tensioning prescriptive and informative approaches. In the second, we highlight analyzers that emphasize lessons associated with human relationships in traffic and the tension promoted in the group. Lastly, we discuss the challenge of creating a perspective that fosters co-management and the analysis of implication, stressing hetero-management. This experience highlights the contributions of Psychology to the shift from the punitive approach to a reflective one.
