GONCALVES, Isis Pires et al. Social Skills of Adolescents in Conflict with the Law: An Integrative Literature Review. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2023, vol.16, n.1, e19159.  Epub 20-Jan-2025. ISSN 1983-8220.  https://doi.org/10.36298/gerais202316e19159.

Evidence shows that the involvement of adolescents with crime practices is associated with a limited repertoire of social skills. The aim of this research is to systematize scientific knowledge on the associations between social skills and infringement behavior in adolescence. An integrative literature review was performed in four databases: LILACS, PsycINFO, ScieELO, and Web of Science. A keyword crossover was performed: “juvenile delinquency,” “juvenile offenders,” and “social skills.” Articles published in Portuguese, Spanish, and English, from 2008 to 2020, with focus on this subject were selected. The methodological quality of the investigations was evaluated by the Downs & Black Scale. Among the 128 identified research, seven met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed. Significant associations between deficits in social skills and infringement were found in six studies. Associations were also identified between deficit in social skills and recidivism. Therefore, promoting the development of adolescents’ social skills can help prevent them from engaging in any behavior that is against the law.
