Abstract

FERRARI, Bárbara Letícia; SETTE, Catarina Possenti  and  CARVALHO, Lucas de Francisco. Relationship between Dependence on Facebook and Traits Related to Narcissistic and Histrionic Personality Disorders. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2023, vol.16, n.1, e19206.  Epub Jan 20, 2025. ISSN 1983-8220.  https://doi.org/10.36298/gerais202316e19206.

The aim of the study is to verify the predictive capacity of pathological traits of narcissistic (NPD) and histrionic (HPD) personality disorders to Facebook dependence in community sample. The sample comprised 424 subjects, aged from 18 to 64 years, with 71.1% women. We administered the Facebook Addiction Scale (FAS), Dimensional Clinical Personality Inventory 2 (Inventário Dimensional Clínico da Personalidade 2 – IDCP-2), and a Facebook profile information questionnaire. Initially, the psychometric properties of the FAS were verified for the Brazilian context, indicating psychometric adequacy. Subsequently, analyses were performed to verify how the pathological traits of NPD and HPD predict Facebook dependence. Some IDCP-2 factors showed significant capacity in predicting components of Facebook dependence. Specifically, “need for recognition,” “attention seeking,” and “emotional intensity.” Future studies should focus on the relationship between HPD’s typical traits and Facebook’s dependence.
