BELTRAMELLO, Otávio e KIENEN, Nádia. Constituent Behaviors of Psychologists as Therapeutic Accompaniment. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2023, vol.16, n.1, e19381. Epub 20-Jan-2025. ISSN 1983-8220. https://doi.org/10.36298/gerais202316e19381.
This study aims to identify constituent behaviors of Therapeutic Accompaniment (TA) as a subfield of the psychologist’s practice in Brazil, according to a behavior-analytical study. This is a bibliographic research that consists of a four-step process, which enables researchers to evaluate, derive, correct, and organize the behavioral classes according to an analysis on the clarity, precision, and conciseness of the grammatical sentences present in the excerpts of the analyzed work. 1160 behaviors were identified: 1002 relates to direct intervention on behavioral processes, 125 relates to teaching, and 33 relates to development of knowledge on TA. The work of TA within a team (N = 121), by means of planning interventions (N = 50), professional bond (N = 47), and functional assessment of team demands (N = 24) were behaviors that stood out from the performed analyses. The results obtained allowed us to question definitions traditionally used to refer to TA, such as considering it subordinate to another professional and/or definitions that bring TA functions closer to those performed mainly by interns. We concluded that the TA’s work is complex, and its main function is to cooperate on increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of multidisciplinary team interventions.
