Resumen

DIAS, Marcela Tescarolo; OTTATI, Fernanda  y  CUNHA, Felipe Augusto. Women’s Perceptions of Gender Inequality in the Labor Market. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2023, vol.16, n.2, e19478.  Epub 12-Mayo-2025. ISSN 1983-8220.  https://doi.org/10.36298/gerais202316e19478.

Over the years, women have been constantly discriminated against and considered inferior to men, who used to be considered the providers of the home while women had their lives tied to motherhood. This inequality extends to the professional scope and is a reflection of society. Nowadays, salaries are still unequal and women often have to prove their competence. This article aims to describe a qualitative study that aimed to analyze women’s perceptions of gender inequality in the labor market. A total of 10 women from different professional backgrounds took part and answered a semi-structured survey. The results evinced that gender inequality was still present in participants’ lives, as it is easier for men to enter the labor market and occupy higher job positions. It is therefore necessary to understand the relevance of this issue for psychology, which seeks to understand these social constructs and their impact on society, and to promote debates that question these constructs.
