This research aimed to compare the level of team cohesion among athletes in team and individual sports in a city in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The study included 38 athletes of both sexes (23 men and 15 women), who had a mean age of 16.21 (SD=4.72) years. The Group Environment Questionnaire, adapted and validated for Brazil, was used. The results showed that the individual sports athletes had higher values in the dimensions of individual attraction the group-task group (ATGT) and individual attraction to the group- social (ATGS), when compared to the team sports athletes. In the intra-group analyses, both groups showed higher values for the ATGT dimension than for the other dimensions. Thus, it is possible to consider that the athletes from both groups obtained good cohesion scores, especially in the task-related dimensions, which, according to the literature, are the dimensions most closely related to high performance.
