OLIVEIRA, Adriana Leônidas de et al. The night shift work and its repercussions on the health and on the daily life of metal workers in the Paraíba valley in the state of São Paulo. Rev. Psicol., Organ. Trab. [online]. 2006, vol.6, n.2, pp.65-84. ISSN 1984-6657.
Night shift work is a relevant theme nowadays, due to its widespread application, and also for technical, social, and economic reasons. Studies have shown, however, that this temporal organization of work can cause health disturbances and disruptions in the family and sociallife of the individual. Thus, this research sought to conduct a qualitative analysis of the repercussions of working the night shift on the health and on the daily life of metal workers in the Paraiba Valley in the State of Sao Paulo. The case study methodology incorporating semi-structured interviews with seven participants has been utilized and a qualitative analysis of the content was performed. The results reveal disturbances in the health and in the sleep quality of the worker, in addition to some disturbances in their family and social life, as well as in their leisure time. This confirms the need for supportive planning and preventative guidance concerning workers' physical and mental health as well as for family programs of psychological support and guidance
