Police work requires psychological characteristics that suit the function, with a complex structure of police competences, to which crucial psychological factors are referred and subject to assessment by validated instruments. The objective of this work is to describe the development of the psychological assessment process of the contest for Federal Highway Police (PRF) between 2019 to 2021. It is an experience report of those responsible for behavioral supervision in which continued psychological evaluation and the changes that continue over the years of evaluation are described, aiming at the improvement of the activity. In this process, the interest of the PRF in a psychological assessment in the examinations for police officers is highlighted, considering the benefits for the institution, professionals and society, and may even serve as a model for other public institutions.
