Abstract

MORAES, Romulo Matos de; ISTOE, Rosalee Santos Crespo  and  MIRANDA, Valtair Afonso. Social Challenge Stressors Scale: Psychometric Validation and Application in the Brazilian Context. Rev. This study aimed to adapt and verify psychometric evidence for the Brazilian context of the Social Challenge Stressors scale (SCSS). The instrument refers to a set of situations perceived as difficult or obscure and that require some type of social behavior to guarantee work performance. The sample included data from 272 workers from three different fields of activity. The technique of optimized implementation of parallel analysis was used, which indicated a one-dimensional structure with eight items that endorse the response patterns, according to parameters of item response theory. The results confirmed the goodness of fit of the model (χ2/gl = 0.964; CFI = 0.995; TLI = 0.993; RMSEA = 0.056; WRMR = 0.050), as well as its accuracy and replicability. As evidence of external validity, it is pointed to a positive correlation between social job stress and work engagement. It was concluded that the SCSS has a reliable structure to measure the new concept of challenge-stressor in Brazil.

Keywords : psychometry; challenge-stressor; social stress.
