One of several mental abilities involved in the executive functions is the cognitive estimation, which can be measured using the Cognitive Estimation Test (CET). This instrument consists in 28-item scale and involves diverse dimensions, including weight, height, and speed. The aim of the present study was to investigate the relations among several cognitive abilities and the performance on the CET. Thirty healthy elderly were assessed. The participants were assessed with the Mini Mental Status Examination (MMSE), some tasks from the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Adults (WAIS III), the Boston Naming Test (BNT), Controlled Oral Word Association Test (COWAT) and the Stroop Colors and Words Test (SCWT). Their performance on the CET was correlated to sociodemographic variables and many neuropsychological tests. Results suggest that CET performance can be correlated to the variable years of education and to higher scores on Vocabulary subtest. This finding suggests that the formal knowledge can be important to effective estimation abilities.
